Senior Chinese official meets Gabonese defense minister

Wu Guanzheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) met here Wednesday with the visiting Gabonese Minister of State and Defense Ali Bongo.

Wu, also secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, said China and Gabon enjoy a traditional friendship.

Since the two countries established diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have developed steadily with frequent high-level visits and effective cooperation, Wu said.

The Chinese government happy to see that the Cabonese government, led by President Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, the minister's father, has made remarkable achievement in economic development and in raising the living standard of its people, he said.

Wu thanked Gabon for its support to China on the Taiwan issue.

"China attaches great importance to friendly cooperative relations with Gabon and is willing to work with the Gabonese side to push bilateral relations to a higher level."

Wu also briefed the guest on China's economic constructions.

Bango said China has maintained fast growth and this contributes to the stability of the world and Gabon hopes to learn from China.

When Wu visited Gabon in early September, the two sides signed a series of cooperative agreements, which will provide jobs, promote resource exploitation and enlarge exports of Gabon, he said.

Invited by Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan, Bongo arrived in China last Friday for a week-long visit.
