font size

A financial official linked with the U.S. army committed suicide in Kuwait on Tuesday after being investigated for fraud, local daily Kuwait Times reported Wednesday.

According to the report, the man, an American citizen, served as a intermediator between local firms and the U.S. military for service contracts and other projects.

He had discovered that he was being investigated for fraud and other financial crimes before committing suicide, said the report.

Concerned sources were quoted as saying that three people have been involved in the alleged fraud. They were working in Iraq and were questioned by U.S. officials before being sent back to Washington.

However, the U.S. embassy here said it had no information about the citizen, preferring not to comment on the matter.
