Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz Thursday ordered the army to impose a full closure on the West Bank and Gaza during the Jewish New Year holiday, local media reported.
Israelis have been preparing for the upcoming Jewish New Year holiday, which begins from sunset Friday, the local newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on its website.
During a meeting with security establishment officials, Peretz also ordered the opening of the Rafah crossing from Gaza to Egypt in accordance with periodical security assessments, the daily said.
On Tuesday, Israel raised its alert level and imposed additional blockades and checkpoints in the central area of the nation on information of possible terror attacks. But the alert was called off hours later.
