UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan encouraged Iran to maintain the momentum of the dialogue with the European Union on its nuclear issue during their meeting, Annan's spokesman office said in a statement Tuesday.
"The Secretary-General met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and the two discussed Iran's nuclear talks with the three European Union nations and three other permanent members of the Security Council," the statement said.
Moreover, they also agreed on the need for further dialogue between Iran and Western countries on a range of other issues, the statement said.
The UN Security Council passed a resolution in July, asking Iran to suspend the uranium enrichment activities by the end of August. However, Iran has refused to abide by the resolution and the United States has tried to seek UN Security Council sanctions on the Islamic country.
