Zambia to take part in homeless World Cup
font size

Zambia will participate in the homeless World Cup 2006 championship to be held in South Africa, Sunday Times reported.

It quoted Zambia Youth Academy (ZYA) communications director Kaluwa Tembo as saying here Saturday that eight players are expected to leave for South Africa next week to compete in the tournament that has attracted 48 countries and 500 homeless players who will be making their way to Cape Town to kick off global poverty and change their lives forever.

Tembo said the competition will unite homeless people from far flung places such as Afghanistan, Argentina, England and the United States.

This world class sporting event will blaze the trail for the 2010 FIFA World Cup slated for South Africa, he said.

ZYA is a non-governmental organization aimed at getting youths (orphans, vulnerable children and the homeless) off the streets and equipping them with skills that will make their lives better and more productive.
