font size

China sees Botswana as an important cooperative partner and is willing to work together with Botswana to push forward their friendly relations, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Tuesday in Gaborone.

Wu Guanzheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made the remarks in party-to-party talks with Botswana's President Festus Mogae, who heads the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Wu said that Botswana is an important country in southern Africa. Over the past 40 years since the country's independence, the BDP has adhered to the four principles of democracy, development, self-reliance and unity, he added.

The Chinese official expressed appreciation for the efforts by the BDP to explore a development road suitable to the country's conditions, which has led to social stability, fast economic growth, better livelihood and greater influence on regional and international affairs.

Mogae spoke highly of China's economic achievements. He said that under the leadership of the CPC, the Chinese economy has achieved a take-off, not only bringing great changes to the nation, but also influencing world economic development in a far-reaching way.

Botswana appreciates China's all along attention to the development of Africa, unswerving support for the just cause of African countries and its efforts to consolidate cooperation with Africa, Mogae said.

Talking about inter-party exchanges, Wu noted that the exchanges between the two parties have been increasing and that mutual understanding and friendship have been constantly deepened over the past years.

The CPC is happy to maintain exchanges at various levels with the BDP and learn from each other experiences in managing state affairs, so as to push forward relations between the two parties and the two countries, said the senior CPC official.

Mogae told Wu that the BDP is proud of maintaining friendly exchanges with the CPC and willing to make new contributions to the development of ties.

Following the meeting, both men attended the signing ceremony of relevant economic cooperation agreements between the two governments.

Wu and his entourage arrived here Monday afternoon for a friendly visit.
