Ronaldo: World Cup top scorer
font size

Brazilian star Ronaldo was crowned king of World Cup goalscorers on Tuesday, after scoring his 15th goal in the competition and breaking Germany's Gerd Muller's 14-goal record.

Ronaldo scored in minute five of the Ghana-Brazil match, in which his team ended up winning 2-0, ending Muller's 32-year reign.

Muller had scored 10 goals in the Mexico 1970 World Cup, and then four in the 1974 Germany World Cup. Ronaldo set the record across three competitions: the 1998 France World Cup, the 2002 Japan and South Korean Cup and this year's Cup in Germany.

Before Muller, France's Just Fontaine held the record after scoring his 13th goal in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.
