The death toll from a suicide bombing inside a Shiite mosque in central Baghdad rose to 10 on Friday, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

"According to latest information, 10 people were killed and 25 others wounded when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself up at the Buratha Mosque shortly before the Friday prayer," the source said on condition of anonymity.

Earlier, the source put the casualties at six killed and 15 others wounded.

The Buratha mosque is the second most important Shiite mosque in Atifiyah neighborhood in central Baghdad.

It is a historic mosque and the headquarters of Iraqi lawmaker Jalel al-Deen al-Sagheer.

On April 7, the mosque was hit by three suicide bombings which killed about 75 Iraqis and wounded 135 others.
