Some 30,000 runners, including from other countries, will take part in a 10K marathon to mark the 479th founding anniversary of the capital city Jakarta on July 7.
Foreign male participants include Wilberforce Talel from Kenya, Moses Mosop, Johnstone Chekwony and Chane Abera from Ethiopia, and Alejandro Suarez from Mexico have confirmed their participation in the "A Run for Solidarity," the secretary general of the Indonesian Athletics Association, Tigor Tanjung, said here on Wednesday.
Foreign female participants are world runners like Gigi Asha from Ethiopia, Irina Timofeyeva from Russia, Nina Rillstone from New Zealand and Viola Bor from Germany.
"Talel was the champion of the Jakarta 10K last year while Asha was runner-up," Antara news agency quoted Tanjung as saying.
Talel clocked 27 minutes and 33.6 seconds while Asha 31 minutes and 48.31 seconds in last year's 10-kilometer event.
He said 20 local male and female national runners would also take part in the event including Jauhari Johan and Triyaningsih who came out as champions in the national elite runner category.
"We hope an Indonesian participant could finish sixth, or at least join the big ten," he said.
The event offers 11,000 U.S. dollars for the winner in the international elite category, 15 million rupiah (about 1,500 U.S. dollars) for the champion of the national elite category, 5 million rupiah (about 500 U.S. dollars) for the champion of school student category, and 3 million rupiah (about 300 U.S. dollars) for the champion of the general public category.
