The ongoing World Cup football matches can be broadcast in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) with the cooperation between Seoul and Pyongyang, a South Korean government official said on Sunday.

"Now that DPRK can watch the South Koreans in the tournament, we hope it will contribute to recovering our identity as one people," South Korean Central Broadcasting Commission (CBC) said in a statement.

Full-scale satellite transmissions of all the matches will begin on Monday while DPRK authorities broadcast edited versions to its audience.

Both sides have installed a hotline for a smooth broadcast operation during the tournament, the South Korean CBC said in its statement.

South Korea will afford the entire cost, estimated at 157,000 US dollars, of the broadcasting for the DPRK, according to South Korea 's Yonhap news.

Earlier Sunday, the Chosun Shinbo, a newspaper published in Japan, said at its website that the DPRK would broadcast pre-recorded World Cup matches starting from the day.
