Portraits of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt with their newborn daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, are on the way.
People magazine confirmed it has purchased exclusive U.S. rights to the photos for an unspecified figure. The issue with the photos goes on sale Friday in the United States.
The Jolie-Pitt photos appear to be on track to beat out another showbiz baby's first public appearance: Suri, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, born April 18.
"Our readers have followed Angelina Jolie's pregnancy with much anticipation," People managing editor Larry Hackett said in a statement. "We're happy that they'll see these photos in People."
The photos were shot by Getty Images in Namibia, where Shiloh was born May 27. Proceeds from the sale are to go to as-yet unnamed charities of the parents' choosing, Pitt's publicist confirmed.
"It's a stroke of genius for a celebrity who knows there's value in a photograph to appear charitable," said Harvey Levin, managing editor of celebrity news site TMZ.com. "There have been plenty of stars who have sold their wedding pictures and pocketed the money. The trend is going to shame a lot of stars into not doing that."
Hello! magazine in the U.K. is promoting on its Website that it will feature the "most eagerly awaited baby exclusive of the year" in its issue out Thursday. But Getty Images rep Deb Trevino would not confirm that sale except to say: "We are negotiating with publications around the world, which would indicate that there is some geographic exclusivity."
On Tuesday, various blogs displayed an image of Jolie and Pitt fawning over a baby on what appears to be the cover of Hello!.
