Malaysia has launched a new tourism information hotline to cater for the influx of tourists during Visit Malaysia Year 2007, local media reported Thursday.
The new infoline, 1300-88-5050, will replace the existing 1300- 88-5776, said Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
The new infoline started operating on Wednesday but the old one will still be operational until Dec. 31, Tengku Adnan said after launching the new line Wednesday here.
He said the new infoline will connect the caller to the nearest tourism call center at a Tourism Malaysia office or Tourism Information Center.
"The new infoline has 21 call centers but the old one only connects the caller to four call centers in Kuala Lumpur, " the minister was quoted as saying by The Star.
The infoline will provide as much information as possible about tourism programs in Malaysia to foreign tourists, and the front liners are all well-trained, said Tengku Adnan, adding his ministry will hire multi-lingual operators during peak holiday seasons to better serve to non-English speaking tourists.
The call centers will operate from 8 a.m. to midnight local time, and then all calls will be diverted to a mobile line after midnight, said Tengku Adnan.
