Teams from five ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries are now at various locations in Yogyakarta and Central Java, Indonesia, providing medical assistance and relief efforts to the earthquake victims, according to a statement released here on Wednesday by the ASEAN.

The countries are Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, it said.

Meanwhile, other ASEAN countries including Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam, are sending food supplies and cash contributions to Indonesia, the statement said, adding that all these efforts are being carried out in close coordination with the Indonesian government and will be continued till the situation becomes stable.

The earthquake in Yogyakarta on May 27 claimed the lives of over 5,000 people.

The international community has mobilized multi-level efforts to salvage the victims.
