A strong earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale struck near Tonga Sunday, the U.S. Geological survey said.
The quake hit at 4:36 p.m. local time (0336 GMT) around 143 km northeast of Tonga's capital, Nuku'alofa.
Meanwhile, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center estimated Papua New Guinea was also shaken by a 6.2 magnitude quake.
However, there were no reports of damage or injuries from either temblor.
