Two Taliban's key commanders among dead bodies in S. Afghanistan

Afghan authorities said Monday that bloody clash in Panjwai district of the southern Kandahar province has claimed the lives of two key Taliban commanders in the region.

"Mullah Abdul Baqi and Mullah Abdul Manan were the two key Taliban commanders in the region lost their lives in the battle erupted yesterday," provincial spokesman Daud Ahamdi told Xinhua.

Eleven suspected Taliban operatives and five policemen have been killed and eight policemen were wounded in the bloody conflict over the past two days, the official asserted.

"Operation is still going on to root out the enemies," he stressed.

Kandahar and the neighboring provinces of Zabul, Helmand and Uruzgan commonly known as the heartland of Taliban has been the scene of violent incident since last year.

Taliban-linked insurgency has claimed the lives of more than 300 people including 25 American soldiers since beginning this year.
