font size

A set of meteorology donated by the Chinese government was handed over to the Sri Lankan government in Colombo Monday in a bid to improve the island country's weather forecast standard.

In a simple handover ceremony, Director General of Meteorology Department G.H.P. Dharmaratne told Chinese Ambassador Sun Guoxiang that Sri Lanka would make best use of the equipment.

Dharmaratne said he hoped that the two countries will further strengthen their exchange and cooperation in the area of meteorology.

The equipment donated by China is composed of temperature- humidity sensor, rainfall sensor and battery cabinet, among others.

Sri Lanka's meteorological observations dated back to 1850. Now it's observation network consists of 64 meteorological stations all over the island.
