Cambodian gov't plans to sell off 3 rubber plantations
font size

The Cambodian government plans to sell off three state-owned rubber plantations in Kompong Cham province, about 124 km east of the capital Phnom Penh, Business Press reported on Monday.

"Many domestic and foreign companies have come to have a look at the plantations the government plans to sell, but none has decided to buy them yet," said Chan Hit, deputy head of the Directorate of Rubber Plantations at the Ministry of Agriculture.

He said the plantations are a 6,000-hectare rubber plantation at Chamkar Andong, a 4,000-hectare plantation at Boeung Ket, and a 5,000-hectare plantation at Memot. These plantations have legal titles without complications.

A representative of a rubber investment company said those companies that have visited the plantations have not decided to buy them due to concerns over complications with the residents.

Chan Tong Yves, secretary of state of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said "the government wants to sell some rubber plantations, but the plan is not announced yet because we have not finished setting up the procedures."
