Angolan opposition National Union for the Independence of Angola (UNITA) has urged Angolans to remain calm on speculation about President Jos Eduardo dos Santos' health.
"There is much speculation about the state of health of the President of the Republic and for that reason I appeal to Angolans to remain serene and not feed the speculation", UNITA leader Isaias Samakuva said here Wednesday.
Samakuva said he was "certain" that if the president, who was in Brazil on a vacation, was indeed "seriously ill", the president or the government would "inform the nation in time."
Last week Luanda filled with speculation that the president had suffered a severe health setback in Brazil, where the president goes regularly for medical checkups.
Angola is expected to hold post-civil war presidential and legislative elections next year.
