font size

The U.S. embassy in Tirana received a bomb threat on Tuesday which turned out to be a false alarm, police said.

According to the police sources, the local TV Channel Klan received an anonymous call at about 13:00 o'clock local time, saying that a bomb had been planted inside the U. S. embassy.

Special police squads rushed to the scene. They closed and evacuated the embassy, conducted a thorough search inside out, but found no explosive device, police said.

U.S. ambassador to Albania Marcie Rice is in Greece Tuesday, accompanying the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on her visit to Athens.

According to a new study by U.S. and Croat intelligence released recently, Islamic militants with ties to al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations have been crisscrossing the Western Balkans for more than 15 years, and the Western Balkans has the risk to become a platform for anti-EU terrorist attacks.
