Car bomb rocks Baghdad, two killed
font size

A powerful car bomb went off in Baghdad's Shiite-dominated Sadr City on Tuesday, killing two Iraqi civilians and wounding five others, an Interior Ministry source said.

"A makeshift bomb planted on a KIA minibus detonated at about 11:50 a.m. (1050 GMT) near a popular market in Sadr City, killing two people and wounding five others," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Earlier, an explosive-laden car, parking near the al-Yarmouk Hospital in western Baghdad, went off when a police patrol was passing by, wounding two policemen and damaging a police vehicle, the source added.

Violence continues infesting Iraq despite the political breakthrough that Jawad al-Maliki was formally designated as the new prime minister on Saturday, ending a months-long political deadlock.
