Sri Lanka to firmly pursue one China policy as before

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse told a Chinese Communist Party delegation on Wednesday that his country will continue to strictly pursue its one China policy as before.

During his talks with the delegation led by He Yong, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Rajapakse said Sri Lanka and china enjoy a profound traditional friendship and the Sri Lankan people are always good friends of the Chinese people.

Rajapakse said the ruling Sri Lankan Freedom Party established good relationship with the CPC long time ago and the contact between the two parties has been playing an important role in promoting relationship of the two countries.

He Yong, who is also the Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, said Sino-Lanka relations have developed smoothly and reaped rich fruits in the last 49 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The deputy secretary said the CPC and the Chinese government attach great importance to the relations between China and Sri Lanka.

He said China wishes to push forward the two countries' all- round cooperative partnership featuring sincere mutual support and everlasting friendship.

During their talks, He Yong passed on the regards of Chinese President Hu Jintao and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Rajapakse.

Rajapakse expressed his warm welcome to the CPC delegation and asked He Yong to pass on his regards to the Chinese leaders.

He Yong and the CPC delegation arrived here Wednesday to make their three-day official visit to Sri Lanka.
