font size

German Chancellor Angela Merkel sent a telegram on Friday to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, extending condolences over the earthquakes that killed scores of people in western Iran.

"It fills me with great sadness that the Iranian people again have to suffer from an earthquake disaster," she said in the telegram, extending her "deepest sympathy to the victims and their families".

Three earthquakes hit Iran's western Lorestan province early Friday, killing at least 66 people and wounding more than 1,200, Iranian officials said.
