font size

Tanzania last year earned 746 million U.S. dollars from the tourism sector, 2.2 percent up from 2004.

The figure was a preliminary estimate by the Tanzania Tourist Board, which announced on Saturday that the east African country received 582,807 tourists in 2005, compared to the figure of 548, 679 posted in 2004.

Amant Macha, marketing manager of the board, attributed the increase of tourists to the country's campaign known as "Tanzania - - Authentic Africa" launched in 2002.

Efforts have also been made in improving and upgrading Tanzania 's tourism-related infrastructure like airports, roads and hotels.
