    Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao meets Chinese and foreign journalists covering the annual full session of the national legislature shortly after the closing of the session on Tuesday.

    The Fourth Session of the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC) holds its closing meeting at the Great Hall of the People�� March 14, 2006. The meeting endorsed Premier Wen Jiabao's work report and the country's 11th Five-Year Plan, which enshrined the country's new economic policies of relying on rural development and sci-tech progress.

    Cultural relics of Baiyue to be shown

    Photo taken on March 13 shows one item to be on display at Guangxi Baiyue Culture Exhibition in China's National Museum in Beijing, China. The exhibition, scheduled from March 15 through June 15, is co-held by China's National Museum and the Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Some 200 cultural relics of Baiyue unearthed in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region would be shown during the exhibition. Baiyue, the Hundred Yue, referring to the aboriginal inhabitants of south China from the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.) to the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220).

    H5N1 bird flu detected in Myanmar

    The resident office of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said on Monday it has received official report from the Myanmar authorities that H5N1 bird flu virus was detected among 400 dead chickens in Mandalay, northern Myanmar.

    Death toll rises to 17 in N.China colliery gas blast
