U.S. State Department to have new office of Iranian affairs
font size

The US State Department will establish a new office of Iranian Affairs to meet the changing situation in the Middle East, deputy spokesman of the department Adam Ereli said in Washington Friday.

The decision "comes in the context of the secretary's broader initiative regarding transformational diplomacy, and is part of our overall effort to realign resources with policy priorities in recognition of a changing world," Ereli told a news briefing.

The purpose of this office "is to help us reorient our focus and our programs more directly on an important policy challenge for the United States, which is Iranian actions around the world," he added.

On the post of the new department, Ereli said that there will be a director of the Office of Iranian Affairs, like there's the director of the office of any other area in the State Department.
