U.S. bans imports of poultry from French region with bird flu
font size

The U.S. Agriculture Department said on Tuesday that the United States has banned imports of poultry and live bird from a region of France where bird flu virus was found in turkeys.

However, the department said the ban on French poultry and birds will apply only to those from state of Ain, not to the entire country of France.

The outbreak of bird flu in France's Ain region was reported last week and it is the European Union's first encounter with the deadly H5N1 virus. The virus was found at a farm of more than 11, 000 turkeys in southeastern France.
