Sectarian violence kills 379 in Iraq
font size

Up to 379 Iraqis have been killed and 458 others wounded in a sectarian reprisal violence across the country since last Wednesday's bombing of a Shiite shrine, the government said in a statement.

Unidentified militants bombed the Ali al-Hadi Mausoleum, one of the holies Shiite mosques, in Samarra of northern Iraq on Feb. 22.

The attack outraged the Shiite community, accounting for about 60 percent of Iraq's population, who blamed Sunni Arabs, a minority in Iraq, and attacked dozens of Sunni mosques in retaliation.
