    Surgery for white lion

    Veterinarians are engrossed in conducting an operation on a white lion at a pet veterinary hospital in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, Feb. 28, 2006. The 1.5-year-old male white lion with a weight of over 100 kilograms belongs to a rare species out of chromosome mutation, and was bred by the Hangzhou Wild Animals World. The veterinarians succeeded in taking out a tumor from the lion's front left leg's elbow during the operation.

    Zhejiang intensifies measures to contain bird flu

    A medical staff disinfects a truck in Anji County of east China's Zhejiang Province, Feb. 27, 2006. A nine-year-old girl in Zhejiang Province was confirmed to be infected with H5N1 bird flu, reported the Ministry of Health on last Saturday. Local government has intensified prevention measures to make the epidemic under control. And now people's life there remains normal.

    EU grants Palestinians 120 million euros in aid

    Protest against Chen Shui-bian

Chen announced the decision to terminate the "national unification council" and the "national unification guidelines" after a one-hour meeting with Taiwan's top security agency, the "national security council." The protesters criticized Chen for betraying his 2000 pledge that he would not seek to abolish the council, and said it would be dangerous for Chen to move ahead on his plan, which could change cross-Straits relations fundamentally.
