Sudan denounces bombing of Shiite shrine in Iraq
font size

Sudan on Saturday denounced the recent bombing targeting a Shiite shrine in Iraq as a conspiracy to create sedition among the Muslims.

"The perpetrators are seeking to blow up the solidarity of the Muslim world," Spokesman of the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jamal Mohammed Ibrahim said on Saturday.

Terming the attack as a conspiracy aimed at distracting the attention of the Muslims from the challenges against the Muslim world, Ibrahim called on all Muslims to maintain unity and solidarity.

Iraq's holiest Shiite shrine in Samarra, 120 km north of Baghdad, was badly damaged in a Wednesday explosion, leading to rising sectarian violence and pushing the war-torn country to the edge of a civil war.
