Franz Beckenbauer who is organizing soccer's 2006 World Cup in Germany, left his footprints at the Rio Soccer monument the Maracana Walk Of Fame on Thursday, Brazilian website Terra said.

The captain of Brazil's 1970 World Cup-winning team, Carlos Alberto Torres, accompanied Beckenbauer to the Walk of Fame; a section of pavement in the 70,000 seater Maracana stadium dedicated to the Brazil's top footballers.

Beckenbauer who led German World Cup winning soccer teams first as a player and then as a manager, has picked Brazil over his native Germany as favorites to win the 2006 competition.

"Brazilians have the best body movement I have ever seen," he said. "Brazil and soccer are one."

The soccer organizer visited the Mangueira shantytown, home to the Vila Olimpica sporting project, commenting positively on the improvements in living conditions for Brazil's worst off since his first visit in 1968.
