Henan Province in central China reported a fixed assets investment of 435 billion yuan (54.37 billion U.S. dollars) last year, a drastic rise of 38 percent year-on-year.

According to statistics released by the provincial government, private investment accounted for 56 percent of the total fixed assets investment last year, 11 percentage points higher than the year 2000 figure.

Highway construction has been progressing smoothly in the province. Currently, all the 18 cities under the direct administration of the provincial government are linked by expressways. The total length of expressways that are open to traffic in the province reached 2,678 km last year, ranking 4th in the country, compared with a 13th place at the end of 2000.

With a group of large-capacity power generating units going into operation, the province's total installed generating capacity reached 28.81 million kilowatts.

The province also made marked progress in the construction of major water conservancy projects, water supply facilities in the urban areas, sewage and garbage treatment plants and other infrastructure projects.
