The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) said on Friday it had named Hernan Medford, manager of Costa Rican league team Saprissa, as the best manager in the Central America and North Caribbean (Concacaf) region.
Medford, 38, is number 18 in the IFFHS world rankings. Only two managers better him in Latin America: Paulo Autori, ex-manager of Brazil league team Sao Paulo and Alfio Basile, manager of Boca Juniors, who are respectively 7th and 13th place worldwide.
Medford got his ranking by winning the Concacaf region club cup and managing Saprissa to third place in December's World Soccer Club Championship in Japan.
He has been a manager for three seasons, always leading Saprissa, during which he won the Central American championship, the Concacaf championship and the Costa Rica championship.
