font size

There were 205,854 births in Taiwan in 2005, 10,565 less than that of the previous year while the number of deaths was 139,398, an increase of 4,306 people over that of 2004. Influenced by more deaths and lower births, the natural population growth rate was down to 2.92 per 1,000, according to the latest survey released by a department concerned in Taiwan.

By the end of December last year, the number of households on the island was 7,292,879; the total population 22,770,383 and the average household size 3.1 persons according to the "Central News Agency".
