Tevez named best player, Ruiz top coach in South America
Uruguay's daily newspaper El Pais announced on Thursday Carlos Tevez of Brazilian club Corinthians was named the best player in South America and Paraguay's Uruguayan coach Abubal Ruiz won the best coach title.
The 22-year-old Tevez, who scored 20 goals to finish the season as the third top scorer, after Vasco da Gama's Romario (23) and Paysandu's Robson (21), is the first man to win the title three straight times.
Tevez won 77 votes in a balloting organized by El Pais. Uruguay's Diego Lugano finished second with 54 votes, followed by Brazilians Cicinho and Rogerio Ceni, with 37 and 31 respectively.
Coach Ruiz was voted as the coach of the year with 32 votes. He led Paraguay to the 2006 World Cup finals.
