Al-Qaida threatens to kill Sudanese hostages: website

Al-Qaida in Iraq on Thursday threatened to kill five Sudanese hostages they kidnapped earlier this month, demanding Sudan cut ties with Iraq, a website statement said.

The statement, posted on an Islamic website frequently used by militants, said al-Qaida in Iraq will give the Sudanese government 48 hours to declare it is cutting diplomatic relations with the Iraqi government.

The authenticity of the statement cannot be immediately verified.

Five Sudanese including a diplomat were kidnapped in Iraq on Dec. 23, following a Friday prayer ceremony.

Al-Qaida in Iraq, a terror group led by Jordanian-born terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has kidnapped and killed some Arab diplomats and embassy employees in a bid to stop Arab governments from setting up full diplomatic missions in Iraq.
