The Communist Party of China (CPC) will adhere to and improve the multi-party cooperation and political consultation system and rally forces of various parties, organizations and groups to further push forward development of the nation, a senior CPC leader said in Beijing Friday.

Wu Guanzheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark at a meeting to mark the 60th founding anniversary of the China Democratic National Construction Association.

The multi-party cooperation and political consultation system under the leadership of the CPC is designed to guarantee all social strata, people's organizations and patriots from various quarters can express their opinions and play a role in the country's political and social life.

There are eight non-Communist parties in China, which also include China Association for Promoting Democracy, China Democratic League and Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party.

Wu praised the role of the China Democratic National Construction Association in promoting China's development in the past 60 years and its close cooperation with the CPC, calling it "a close friend of the CPC".

He called on the party to continue close cooperation with the CPC in the effort to achieve moderate prosperity in the whole country.

Cheng Siwei, Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic National Construction Association, reviewed the history of the party and called on its members to rally more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Hu Jintao as the General Secretary and make more contributions to building a harmonious society and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
