The valve of the first station of the China-Kazakhstan oil pipe is switched on by Zhou Jiping (3rd left), Vice President of China National Petroleum Corp. This marks the operation of the program's 962-kilometre first phase which will carry 10 million tons of crude oil a year from Atasu to Alashankou of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Plans are underway for a second phase, which is expected to pipe at least 20 million tons of oil from Kazakhstan to China.
