Car crash kills two ex-NFL players
font size

Two former NFL players were killed on Thursday when their speeding car slammed into an empty bus on a Los Angeles street, according to police.

Local media identified the passenger as Darrell Russell, the 29-year-old former defensive tackle with the Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Authorities said the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix struck a curb around 6 a.m. local time, clipped a fire hydrant and smashed into the bus, which was not in service.

Firefighters worked for more than 20 minutes to pry the men from the car before taking them to local hospitals.
