font size

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his visiting Pakistani counterpart Pervez Musharraf held talks on Sunday night, which highlighted an upcoming summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

The two leaders stressed the significance of the extraordinary summit of the OIC due to be held in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday and Thursday, saying the meeting would help strengthen cooperation and trust among Islamic countries.

The two also agreed that the summit should focus on the political and economic challenges that Islamic countries are facing and that the situation in Iraq, the Palestinian territories and Afghanistan should also be discussed.

The two presidents called for full cooperation and mutual understanding among Islamic countries in order to better deal with regional and international issues.

The two sides also agreed to further enhance security cooperation including personnel training, information sharing and joint actions against illegal drug traffic.

Musharraf arrived in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Sunday evening on a three-day official visit.

The Pakistani president has just wrapped up a two-day trip in Kuwait and is also scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia.
