US President Bush visits Mongolia

US President George W. Bush arrived in Ulan Bator Monday for a short visit and thanked Mongolia for its help in Iraq.

Bush, the first sitting US president to visit Mongolia, said in a speech at the main government building that US soldiers in Iraq were proud to fight alongside the "fearless warriors" from Mongolia.

The US president, on a lightening four-hour visit to the country at the end of a week-long Asian trip, held talks with Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar.

Noting that Mongolia ratified the UN convention against corruption this year, Bush urged the country's parliament to pass the anti-corruption legislation to implement the treaty.

The Mongolian president termed Bush's visit as historically significant.

Mongolia sent more than 100 soldiers to support US forces in Iraq.
