Arnold Schwarzenegger: California values economic cooperation with China
As for Californian products, China is a huge market, and California will push forward the cooperation and exchanges with China in farm products, biological technology, the entertainment industry and energy-saving.
Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made the remark in Beijing Tuesday at the China-US Californian Business Networking Dinner. Schwarzenegger, also a famous movie star, is paying his first visit to China after he was elected as governor.
California, whose gross product accounts for 13 percent of US gross domestic product, has the strongest economy of all American states.
California and China keep very close economic ties, and bilateral trade brings benefits to both sides, he said.
The two sides have a common interest in curbing pollution, reducing dependence on oil and seeking new energy, he said, expressing hope the two sides will enhance cooperation in mutual investment and intellectual property rights protection.
The Chinese business communities attach great importance to cooperation with California, and the government will continue to push forward bilateral cooperation in agriculture, petroleum, entertainment, high-tech, manufacture, tourism and education, said Yu Ping, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
In 2004, California exported 6.8 billion US dollars of goods to China, including electronic equipment, industrial machinery, computers and transport tools, according to CCPIT.
