China to help build Sri Lanka National Performing Arts Theatre

China will help Sri Lanka to build Sri Lanka National Performing Arts Theatre.

Addressing a foundation ceremony for the project held Friday, Sri Lanka President Chandrika Kumaratunga expressed deep appreciation on behalf of her government and Sri lankan people to the Chinese government and people for this project.

Sun Guoxiang, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, said the theatre will be another symbol and landmark in the history of friendly relations and cooperation between China and Sri Lanka.

"China attaches great importance to this project by sending the best ever designer, advanced equipment, technique, and construction team as well. We will implement the project by elaborate design, construction and management," he said.

The design of the National Performing Arts Theatre includes one auditorium with 1,288 seats capacity, including stages, pool seat, balcony and box seat, rehearsing room, reception room and the necessary facilities, he added.

The Theatre will be of the unique feature of Sri Lankan traditional architecture with the interior equipped with modern sound and light systems.
