US urges to curb Iran's nuclear capabilities
font size

The United States on Thursday reiterated its concern for Iran's effort on nuclear program.

"Obviously we view with concern any suggestion that Iran would seek to contribute to very destabilizing and unhelpful international behavior," deputy State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said at a news briefing.

The United States and its partners in the international community are working resolutely to prevent Iran from developing the kind of capabilities, Ereli said.

Ereli made the remarks after Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency quoted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying that Iran was ready to transfer peaceful nuclear technology to Islamic countries.

"Remarks or reported remarks such as this I think just serve to underscore the importance and the urgency of acting together to confront this threat," Ereli added.

The United States accuses Iran of using its civilian nuclear program as a cover to secretly produce nuclear weapons. Iran has rejected the charge, saying its nuclear program is intended only for generating electricity.
