Floodwater in New Orleans seriously contaminated
font size

Pictures taken on September 7 showed piles of garbage floating on the water in New Orleans streets, the water itself having turned black and stinking. Local waters have been severely polluted since they contain oil, chemicals, human and animal waste, huge amounts of rubbish, as well as many uncollected bodies. Lab tests indicted a bacterium level much higher than allowed. By now three people are feared dead due to polluted water in hurricane ravaged areas. (Xinhua photos)
