Norway offers emergency aid to US

Norway has offered to the United States 1.6-million-US-dollar worth of emergency aid to help the victims of the hurricane Katrina, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported on Monday.

The aid will be channeled through the United Nations.

Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik said it is important that Norway supports those who have had their lives completely changed by the hurricane.

Norway has also made available five naval diver specialists and emergency medical supplies.

The US Red Cross has also accepted an offer from the Norwegian Red Cross (NRC) of seven logistics experts who will be leaving for Baton Rouge Monday. They will help evacuate the stranded people.

NRC has also offered blankets, tents and water treatment plants and other relief material.
