font size

Eight ministries and commissions, including the Ministry of Information Industry and the State Development and Reform Commission, issued a notice on August 8 to jointly push forward the construction of next-generation Internet in an effort to provide the most advanced and comfortable information service to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

China has opened the world largest IPV6 test network, linking dozens of cities and over hundred universities at home. Based on construction of this network, a series of key technologies are tested and applied, which laid a foundation for communication service combing voice, data and video as well as colorful digitalized content.

In terms of mobile communication, services as visual telephone, high-speed Internet access, instant message, video meeting and Olympic games will be provided. For event organizers, services include streaming-media-based event monitoring, security staff management, wireless video monitoring of venues as well as traffic information.

In terms of fixed-line communication, a unified information service platform will be constructed by combing telephone, video and streaming media technologies. IPV6-based services such as video monitoring, visual communication and multi-media information release will be available.
