Saddam's lawyer boycotts tribunal, demanding apology over disorder

The chief of a legal team tasked with defending deposed President Saddam Hussein before the Iraqi Special Tribunal said on Tuesday that the team boycotted the tribunal till a man allegedly involved in an attack on his client is brought to justice and the court apologizes.

"As Saddam Hussein's lawyer, and on behalf of his defense team, we announce the boycott of the tribunal till it issues a formal apology over the disgraceful act on July 28 and the man is brought to justice," the al-Jazeera TV channel quoted Khalil al-Dulaimi as saying.

US forces, which are in charge of Saddam's custody, denied the assault. The tribunal, for its part, also issued a statement, denying such an attack.
