"I am very glad to visit Beijing": Ma Ying-jeou
font size

"I am very glad to visit Beijing if there is a chance," said Mayor of Taipei Ma Ying-jeou.

Ma made the remarks when a student from Peking University asked whether he wished to pay visit to Beijing. Ma met students from Peking University and Taiwan University in Taipei on July 27.

Ma said he should have gone to Peking University to give lectures at the School of International Law at the university's invitation before he decided to run for the position of Taipei mayor in 1998. He cannot go to the Chinese mainland for the time being because he is serving as mayor of Taipei.
