Hong Kong people from all walks of life on Thursday denounced the Japanese government for its support to the right-wing groups in whitewashing Japan's history of aggression and infringing on China's territorial sovereignty, and warned it against taking the road of militarism.
The preparatory committee for commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, representing its 660 member organizations and over 300 representatives from various circles, issued a statement on the matter.
The statement pointed out that Japan has kept distorting its history of aggression and refusing to admit its war-time atrocities in recent years. On April 5, the Japanese government approved the new history textbooks written by right wing groups, which justify aggression and deny "Nanking Massacre." This has seriously hurt the feeling of the Chinese people.
The statement demanded the Japanese authorities respect the facts of history and correct the mistakes.
The statement also strongly objected to Japan's claim on China's territory of Diaoyu Islands, saying that the recent decision by the Japanese authorities to take over the beacon set by the Japanese right wing groups on the island is a serious infringement on China's sovereignty over its territory.
The statement said, Japan must stop its provocation of and infringement on China's territorial sovereignty.
The statement said Japan is not qualified for a permanent member of the UN Security Council because the government refuses to stop its ambitions of expansion and keeps on beautifying its war-time atrocities.
The statement demanded Japan correct its wrong attitude toward its history of aggression, prevent militarism from gaining ground and stop its attempt to revise the constitution, so as not to bring new disasters to Japan's younger generation and other Asian people.
