Japanese pingpong player welcomed to Chinese provincial team
font size

China welcomed the famous Japanese female pingpong player Ai Fujinuma to join the Liaoning Province table tennis team.

The move is able to "enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and Japanese people," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao at a regular press conference Thursday.

Ai Fujinuma will sign a contract Friday with the Liaoning provincial table tennis team to join the team and participate in China's national table tennis tournament, said Liu. Fujinuma is not only followed by Japanese fans, but also very popular in China.

"We hope Fujinuma's coming to China will not only enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and Japanese people, but contribute to some extent to the development and improvement of the all-round Sino-Japanese relations as well," the spokesman said.
